  1. What’s the difference between USii Oxygen Barrier Bag and USii Produce Bag?

    Fruits and vegetables are still alive after they are picked, so they will continue to metabolize and respirate. Produce bag is designed to absorb the aging hormones that fruits and vegetables emit to cause self-ripening. This slows down the ripening process. Combined with the anti-bacterial and anti-mildew technology, the probability of bacteria growth is greatly decreased preventing the loss of fresh nutrients. Oxygen Barrier Bag -utilizes the principle of "anti-oxidation" to achieve the effect of food preservation. The most important thing in food preservation is to inhibit the breeding of bacteria and microorganisms. Besides from the nutrition from food, the other three factors microorganisms rely on to survive are moisture, temperature, and oxygen. Refrigerating food can slow down the growth of bacteria and microorganisms, but plastic bags used for normal packaging purposes cannot prevent oxygen and moisture from entering the bag because of the permeability of the film material. Therefore, even in a low temperature environment, bacteria will proliferate due to the entry of oxygen, accelerating the rate of food spoilage.
    Other features of Oxygen Barrier are:
    (1) Because of the low oxygen permeability, aroma of food is completely locked inside the bag, preventing flavor of food from being lost.
    (2)The high tech low oxygen permeability material has an oxygen transmission rate 500X lower than that of other PE plastic bags on the market.
    (3) Cookies, nuts and other dry foods lose their crispy texture due to humidity in the air. Because of Oxygen Barrier Bag segregates moisture in the air from entering the bag, foods stored inside will maintain their original texture.

  2. Should food stored in Oxygen Barrier Bag be refrigerated?

    7~60℃ is known as the “danger zone” as this temperature range is when growth of bacteria is very rapid. In general food must be heated to over 70℃ to kill bacteria. High temperature storage should be higher than 60℃ while low temperature storage should be under 7℃ to inhibit growth of bacteria. In order to prevent bacteria from breeding on food, it is recommended that generally food is not left under room temperature for more than 2 hours and in the summer when room temperature may reach above 32℃ food is not left over 1 hour (From Taiwan Food and Drug Administration official website). Therefore, it is best that food is stored in refrigerator for best preservation effect.

  3. How to properly use Oxygen Barrier Bag?

    This bag be used as a storage device with high oxygen barrier. Therefore, it is recommended that consumers use the bag-in-bag method, which is more hygienic and easy to reuse and clean. The detailed explanation of the bag in bag is as follows:
    A-1. After opening packaged food, keep the original packaging of the food, and put it Oxygen Barrier Bag.
    A-2. Divide food into smaller portions with plastic bags, and then place several small portions into one Oxygen Barrier Bag.
    A-3. It is safe to directly store food in Oxygen Barrier Bag, just make sure to clean after use, and fully dry before proceeding to the next use.
    After storing food inside the bag please squeeze out the air inside as much as possible. Securely seal the zipper.

  4. Can Oxygen Barrier Bag be used to store nuts and cookies? Should they be stored in refrigerator?

    Yes they can.

    Nuts and cookies are prone to loss flavor and texture due to moisture and oxidation. Low temperature and low oxygen environments inhibit growth of microorganisms , therefore storing nuts and cookies in refrigerator is ideal. Storage in room temperature for long periods can be achieved with Oxygen Barrier bag, but the following principles are recommended to help achieve maximum preservation time:
    1) Makes sure to squeeze excess air out of bag and seal zipper.
    2) Store in dry, ventilated environment away from sunlight, temperature should not exceed 25 ℃.
    3) Please pour or use a clean spoon to take out desired amount of food. Avoid hand contact.
    4) Take out a single desired portion at a time to avoid change of flavor upon exposure to moisture.
    5) Finish food before overly extended amount of time past the ideal shelf life of food.

  5. Can Oxygen Barrier Bag be used to store fish?

    Yes, Usii Oxygen Barrier Bag is the first domestic functional bag product designed for the preservation of food. Product is designed with the goal of minimizing oxygen transmission through bag film to slow down the oxidation and decay of food.   6. Can Oxygen Barrier Bag be stored in Freezer?

    Usii Oxygen Barrier Bag can be withstand temperatures from 0~70℃,Cold temperatures around 0℃ is acceptable.

    Temperatures lower than 0℃ may cause rupture of bag because of thermal expansion and contraction and food with sharp edges that may press against bag film. If stored in freezer, please gently place bag in room temperature environment for 3-5 minutes because opening the handling food in bag.

  7. Why is the effect of Oxygen Barrier Bag not the same everytime?

    Different foods have varying properties, therefore there will be slight differences in preserving effect. Foods also vary in freshness at point fo purchase. Even if placed in Oxygen Barrier Bag, preservation time of food will still be less than foods that are more fresh.

  8. Will the Bag Zipper age over time?

    The force exerted on zipper, weight of food stored, storage environment and even atmospheric pressure all have an effect on the lifespan of the bag zipper. Therefore it is advised that the zipper is fully sealed everytime and the bag is placed upright.

  9. Can Oxygen Barrier Bag be reused? How should it be washed before reuse? Does it need to be dried?

    With environmental responsibility in mind, Oxygen Barrier Bag was designed to be reusable. In general the bag can just be rinsed with clean water, however, if protein or oily foods were stored it is recommended that the bag is washed using a sponge with dishwasher. Bag should be fully dried as water is a medium for microorganism breeding. It is advised that a bag should be thrown out after a month of use for hygienic reasons.

  10. Under what conditions should Usii Oxygen Barrier Bag be thrown out before a month of use?

    If there is damage to the bag film during use, if bag is contaminated with substance that cannot be washed off, or if food stored inside becomes seriously decayed, it is recommended to switch to a brand new bag.
